I’m so happy to start this thing. I strongly believe in the newsletter, with the aim to build a small and solid community of architectural drawing enthusiasts and lateral thinkers. Enough chitchat: cominciamo!
My name is Federico and welcome to Representations of Architecture #1.
In this first mail I’ll introduce to you the structure of this newsletter. First there is…
Insights
Where I will talk a bit about the analog drawings published during the week.
I can’t tell you a lot about this drawing actually. But in this link you can find all the informations that you want about the project. What about Pezo? I don’t know why I can’t access to their website (www.pezo.cl), that is also where I took the image. If you have the same problem you can use the Wayback Machine . What about Felice Varini? He’s a swiss artist that works with an incredible thing called anamorphosis. I didn’t knew him until I discovered this project. But I knew some other guys doing similar stuff. We’ll get back to this topic, it could be fun. This brings us to the second part…
Very beautiful links
Where I will copy-paste the most interesting things that happened to be in my feed. (The name is literally the translation of the name of the newsletter that I enjoy the most at the moment. It is called Link Molto Belli, it’s only in italian and you can take a look here.)
You will find links like this, or something more in line with the topic of this newsletter, like this.
Or this great article for example:
https://www.e-flux.com/architecture/conditions/287876/platforms-architecture-and-the-use-of-the-ground/
Dogma by the way has just a minimal website (www.dogma.name) and no socials, instagram etc. etc. Talking about instagram, this leads us to the third part, that is…
Sweet IG pages
Where I pick 1 or 2 pages that I really enjoy scrolling.
For example this one:
Where Aldo Rossi’s daughter Vera is kindly sharing some postcards hand-drawn by his father in the 90s.
Or this one:
I love Mahé’s touch. Such clean and crisp images. It reminds me of Chris Ware or maybe Seth, or… but I’m rambling. Last part!
Misc
Where I rant about some random things that happened to me, or maybe I just talk about the last tv series that I watched. In this case you’ll have both.
I just finished a series called I May Destroy You by Michaela Coel. Aired a few months ago on HBO, the series focuses on topics that are pretty relevant today, as sexual identity, the definition of rape and other pretty intense things that I’ll let you discover. The main set location is a sparkling London, but there are also some scenes in Italy (the lovely Ostia actually, but they never show this incredible architecture, it could have been a perfect location). I’ll leave the trailer here, but before that, what are YOU watching??? Something worth our time, or just some silly Netflix show? Please let me know I’m always hungry for new series.
I created a IG page for the newsletter. I’ll post there something just to remind you all that another email is on the way. While creating it I opted for repsofarch. Mostly because @representationsofarchitecture was way too long. I searched for the acronym of reps…and representations is obviously not on the list. But I don’t care, I really like reps as an abbreviation of representations. Also the word reminds me of a famous roman graffiti artist. His name is REPS, and if you have ever been to Rome you probably saw some of his tags around the city without even knowing. Next time you visit the ethernal city pay attention to the walls, you’ll see plenty of his tags, almost everywhere.
That’s it. The #1 is over. Please forgive my poorly written english, I started this thing also to improve it. Next mail will be fatter and more delicious, I promise.
See you next week!
Ciao
Federico
P.S. Please tell a few friends about the newsletter if you feel like it.
